Pseudo-Left Bank bistro. Not exactly cheap, but one of the few places to get good fresh pasta with pesto and scallops. It's also a noted venue for live jazz.

Fernando's Hideaway

Popular Spanish place with a restaurant and wonderful tapas bar.

Murata

Arguably the best Japanese restaurant in town – the fish is a delight. Informal, laid-back atmosphere.

Jake's Famous Crawfish

Portland's prime spot for fresh seafood, though at weekends it's packed. The daily specials are excellent and not exorbitant.

McCormick and Schmick's

Excellent fish restaurant, with ultra-fresh nightly specials, and a lively oyster bar. Entrees around $15.

Old Wives' Tales

Feminist cafe with great breakfasts, sandwiches and innovative vegetarian dishes. There's a popular play area for children.

Pazzo Ristorante

Stylish downtown restaurant where Italy meets the Northwest. Expect to find dishes such as razor clams in hazelnut sauce and smoked salmon ravioli for around $14–20.

Rock Bottom Brewery

Brewpub with five different beers. A big portion of smoked salmon and chips costs around $9. Lots of space, several pool tables and good service.

Wildwood

Young, hip, upscale Nob Hill restaurant with a menu featuring lots of seafood cooked the Northwest way and a good list of Oregon wines.
